Pompoms
(make 9—1 in each color)
Make pompoms as instructed below, approx 2in (5cm) diameter, leaving long tail for attaching to icord.
-
Leaving a long tail, wrap the yarn around a paperback book (or something a similar size) about 120 times, leaving a second long tail.
-
Ease the wrapped yarn off the book gently and wrap the second tail tightly around the center six or seven times.
-
Take a yarn sewing needle and thread in the second tail. Push the needle through the center wrap backward and forward three or four times.
-
Cut the loops on each side of the wrap. Holding the two tails in one hand, hold the bobble and fluff it out.
-
Hold the bobble in one hand and use sharp scissors to trim it into a round and even shape.
Icord
Using two US size 6 (4mm) doublepointed needles and Fuchsia, cast on 3 sts. *Knit to end. Do not turn.
Slide sts to other end of needle, keeping working yarn to back; rep from * until work measures approx 78in (195cm).
K3tog, and fasten off.
Finishing
Sew pair of Stars in same color with WS together.
Block and press Stars.
Lay icord length out and, leaving approx 7–8in (17.5–20cm) free at each end, evenly space alternating stars and pompoms along the length approx 4in (10cm) apart.
Using matching yarn, sew stars and pompoms onto the icord to secure.
The drop of the yarn on the pompoms is approx 2½in (6.5cm).
