Plump and ready for a harvest festival or Halloween, this bright orange pumpkin is finished with a chubby brown stalk, green leaves and a trailing stem.

Perlé Cotton No.8 in Black and White
Toy stuffing
Floristry or craft wire (15 gauge/1.5mm) (optional)

PUMPKIN
Using Orange, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc into ring. (6 sts)
PM at start of round.
Round 2: [Inv inc in next st] 6 times. (12 sts)
Round 3: [1dc in next st, inv inc in next st] 6 times. (18 sts)
Round 4: [1dc in next 2 sts, inv inc in next st] 6 times. (24 sts)
Round 5: [1dc in next 3 sts, inv inc in next st] 6 times. (30 sts)
Round 6: [1dc in next 4 sts, inv inc in next st] 6 times. (36 sts)
Round 7: [1dc in next 5 sts, inv inc in next st] 6 times. (42 sts)
Round 8: [1dc in next 6 sts, inv inc in next st] 6 times. (48 sts)

Position safety eyes at centre of a segment and fasten securely. Sew face details using Perlé cotton and yarn needle, using Black for V-shaped mouth and White for cheeks (see page 125). Fasten off and secure all thread ends.
Beg stufing with small pieces of toy stuffing, cont adding as dec rounds are worked.
Round 23: [1dc in next 7 sts, inv dec] 6 times. (48 sts)
Round 24: [1dc in next 6 sts, inv dec] 6 times. (42 sts)
Round 25: [1dc in next 5 sts, inv dec] 6 times. (36 sts)
Round 26: [1dc in next 4 sts, inv dec] 6 times. (30 sts)

Cut yarn, leaving an extra-long tail, thread tail into a yarn needle and close opening by weaving through front loops only.
Draw yarn from top through base of pumpkin, wrapping around outside of pumpkin and draw up to outline the segments.
STALK
Using Brown, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc into ring. (6 sts)
PM at start of round.
Rounds 2–5: 1dc in each st.
Round 6: [Inv inc in next st] 6 times. (12 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
LEAF
Using Green, ch6.
Round 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, 1dc in next ch, 1htr in next ch, 1tr in next ch, 8tr in last ch, cont down opp side of chain, 1tr in next ch, in next ch, 1dc in next ch, sl st in last ch.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
TRAILING STEM
Using Green, ch21.
Feed floristry wire through chain. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
MAKING UP AND FINISHING
Thread tail into a yarn needle and sew stalk onto centre top of pumpkin. Use tail to secure leaf and trailing stem into place; if using wire in stem, shape as desired. Fasten off and bury tail through body of pumpkin.
