Yarnsmiths Chenille Chunky (100% polyester), chunky (bulky) weight, 100m (109yd) per 100g (3½oz) ball
Primrose Yellow 5160
Aqua 5224 (turquoise)
Candyfloss Pink 5400
Tangerine 5135 (orange)
Fibrefill stuffing
Pair of 12mm safety eyes

6mm (US size J/10) crochet hook

HEAD/BODY
Using Primrose Yellow, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc into ring. (6 dc)
Round 2: [2dc in next st] 6 times.
(12 dc)
Round 3: [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (18 dc)
Round 4: [1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (24 dc)
Rounds 5–8: 1dc in each st around. Insert safety eyes between Rounds 5 and 6, 4 sts apart.
Stuff with fibrefill as you go.
Round 9: [1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (30 dc)
Round 10: [1dc in next 4 sts, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (36 dc)
Rounds 11–16: 1dc in each st around.
Round 17: [1dc in next 4 sts, dc2tog] 6 times. (30 dc)
Round 18: [1dc in next 3 sts, dc2tog] 6 times. (24 dc)

WING

Using Primrose Yellow, make a magic ring.

BOTTOM SHELL
Using Aqua, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc into ring. (6 dc)

Join Candyfloss Pink. Do not fasten off Aqua.
Round 3: [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (18 dc)

Change to Aqua.
Round 5: [1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (30 dc)

Change to Aqua.

Change to Candyfloss Pink.
Rounds 11 and 12: 1dc in each st around.
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew to body.
TOP SHELL
Using Aqua, make a magic ring.
Round 1: 6dc into ring. (6 dc)
Round 2: [2dc in next st] 6 times. (12 dc)
Join Candyfloss Pink. Do not fasten off Aqua.
Round 3: [1dc in next st, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (18 dc)
Round 4: [1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st] 6 times. (24 dc)
Fasten off Candyfloss Pink and cont in Aqua.
Round 5: 1dc in each st around.
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew to head.
FINISHING
Stitch a simple beak between Rounds 6 and 7 using Tangerine. Sew the wings on either side of the body between Rounds 8 and 9. Place the chick inside the bottom shell and sew in place.
Sew the top shell to the head of the chick.
Sew in all ends.
