Making up and finishing

Weave in all loose ends and block to measurements.

Using yarn E and 3.5mm (US E/4) hook, join the two squares together along one side with 1dc in each st or ch-sp, inserting the hook through corresponding stitch or ch-sp of both squares. Fasten off.

Rejoin yarn E in centre ch-sp on one of the short sides, work 12ch and join with sl st in first ch to create the buttonhole loop, then continue around the outer edge working 1ch, 1dc in each st and ch-sp, and 3dc in each corner ch-sp to create the border.

Weave in any remaining ends.

Using yarn E, stitch the button in place.
