Divided by colour theme - Bright and Beautiful, Warm and Rich, and Neutral and Natural - Laura Strutt brings you a range of modern designs in her brand new book, Modern Crocheted Blankets, Throws & Cushions. In this project, Laura's crocheted triangles tessellate neatly, creating a contemporary, geometric cushion panel in cool blues.

Making up and finishing
Place triangles interlocking in three rows of eight, then add three half-triangles at each side to create a square. Use yarn ends to join triangles together with whip stitch. Weave in all ends.
Place panel onto front of fabric cushion cover and stitch to secure.
To create your own fabric backing, cut two pieces of fabric to 45 x 67.5cm (18 x 27in). Fold 2.5cm (1in) to the WS around each side, press and sew in place. Place the two pieces together, both with RS facing up, to create a 62.5cm (25in) square panel – the pieces will overlap in the centre to allow the cushion pad to be inserted. With WS together, place the assembled fabric piece onto the crochet panel and sew around the outer edges.
Tips:
- Leave long yarn ends at the beginning and end of each piece to be used for joining the pieces together.
- Blocking each piece before seaming will make it easier to join the pieces neatly.
- Make a multi-coloured design by using up same-weight yarns from your stash.
