You will find placemats made of raffia, jute or seagrass everywhere. They last for ages, but after a while they get a bit grubby. Don’t throw them away – turn them into beautiful pieces of art instead!

YOU WILL NEED
Chalk Paint in your chosen colours
Detail Brush Set

You can use anything circular for this project – raffia placemats, coasters, old bowls – but the trick is to paint lots of them and preferably in different sizes, too. Jo chose to paint these placemats in a simple target design in bright contrasting shades using a curated palette of colours.

Try to repeat some of the colours across the placemats so that when they are hung, they work together as a family. Instead of targets, you could paint your placemats in geometric shapes, stars, flowers or even African-inspired designs. Getting a good palette of colours that work together is most important, so spend some time getting your colours right.
