Origami Rose

The rose is one of the most famous and beautiful flowers in the world. It might even be the most loved flower. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a bright-coloured rose in your garden, or a mass of roses in different colours? Curl the petals with a pencil to give each bloom that realistic look.

You will need

2 sheets of 6in (15cm) square paper (1 for the flower and 1 for the leaf)

Pencil or dowel

Paper glue (optional)

1. With the colour-side down, fold the paper in half from corner to corner, then open out and fold again in the other direction. Next, open out again before folding in the corners so that they meet in the middle.

2. Turn the paper over and repeat, folding the corners into the centre of the paper.

3. Turn the paper over again and fold the corners in for a third time.

4. Turn the paper over and use a pencil or dowel to roll up the flaps from the centre out toward the corners, then roll the corners down to form the shape of the flower. Follow step 11 on page 101 to make a small leaf and place it underneath the rose. Optional: stick the leaf in place using paper glue.
