This stylish bow tie is a perfect little knitting project to make for a special handmade gift. Made in a smooth silk yarn, this is as individual and cool as it gets—it’s fit for any gent!
MATERIALS
- Fyberspates Scrumptious 4ply, 55% merino wool, 45% silk fingering (4ply) yarn, 3 ½ oz (100g) skeins, approx 399yd (365m) per skein: 1 x skein each of: Glisten shade 318 (pale gray) (A) Gold shade 302 (yellow) (B)
- US size 2/3 (3mm) knitting needles
- Yarn sewing needle
- Bow tie neck strap approx 4in (10cm) diameter
SIZE
4 ½ x 2 ½ in (11.5 x 6.5cm) Bow piece approx 9 x 2 ½ in (23 x 6.5cm) before sewing
Center band approx 2 ½ x 1in (6.5 x 2.5cm) before sewing

Exact gauge (tension) is not essential for this project.

Bow piece
Using A, cast on 18 sts.
Work in seed (moss) st as follows:
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end.
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * to end.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until 38 rows have been worked. Cut A, join B.
Row 39 (RS): K to end. Cut B, Join A.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 in seed (moss) st until another 31 rows have been worked.
Cut A, join B.
Row 71 (RS): K to end. Cut B, join A.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 in seed (moss) st until another 38 rows have been worked.
Bind (cast) off.
Center band
Using A, cast on 8 sts.
Work in seed (moss) st until work measures 2 ½ in (6.5cm).
Bind (cast) off.
Finishing
Sew in ends.
Fold Bow piece with RS together and join seam.
Turn RS out, and center seam.
Sew running stitch along seam through both layers and pull tight to gather.
Make a running stitch back along the seam, through the gathers to secure.
Wrap Center band and middle of Bow and sew into place at the back.
Loop bow tie strap through center loop at back, and fasten in place.
