These little baubles from Mindful Crochet make the perfect Christmas gift to give to the people we love and value in our lives. The French knot is a wonderful embellishment – and if you have yet to master it watch out, because once you do you will be placing them on everything!

For the circles:
Rico Creative Cotton Aran (100% cotton, approx. 85m per 50g ball) Aran (worsted) weight yarn
Small amount each of:
Banana shade 68
Violet shade 16
Rose shade 00
Light green shade 40
Sky Blue shade 37
Candy shade 64
Tangerine shade 76
Orange shade 74
Emerald shade 69
Cardinal shade 11
Natural shade 60
For the decoration:
Twilleys Goldfingering (80% viscose, 20% polyester, approx. 100m per 25g ball) 4 ply (fingering) weight yarn
Small amount of Antique Gold shade 004
4mm (US size G/6) crochet hook
Yarn needle
Polyester toy filling
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
7.5cm (3in) diameter
TENSION (GAUGE):
Rounds 1–2 = 4.5cm diameter, using 4mm (US size G/8) hook.
For the Baubles
CIRCLE (make 3 for each bauble)
Using first colour, make a magic ring, or ch6 and join with ss in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch2 (counts as first htr throughout), 9htr into the ring, join with ss in 2nd of beg 2-ch. 10 sts.
Fasten off first colour.
Round 2: Join second colour in any st, ch2, 1htr in same st, 2htr in each st to end, join with ss in 2nd of fi rst 2-ch. 20 sts. Fasten off second colour.
Round 3: Join third colour in any st, ch2, 2htr in next st, *1htr in next st, 2htr in next st; rep from * to end, join with ss in 2nd of first 2-ch. 30 sts.
Fasten off third colour.
Making Up and Finishing
JOIN THE CIRCLES
Using any colour and with WS tog, join yarn in any st and join 2 circles with a double crochet seam through the first 15 sts. Take a third circle and begin to join this to the first circle with a double crochet seam. You’ll now have one circle joined to half of each of the other two. Stuff with toy filling and then continue working the double crochet seam around to close the opening. Do not fasten off, ch15, and join with a ss in the first chain to make loop to hang the bauble. Fasten off.
Sew in all yarn ends carefully.
ADD DECORATION
Using the gold yarn, work surface crochet around rounds 1 and 3.
Using a contrast colour yarn, work surface crochet around round 2.
Alternatively, using two contrasting colours alternately, make French knots into every other st around round 2.
