A Beginner's Guide to Making Skirts Blog Tour

blog tour blogger fabric sewing Wendy Ward

We're thrilled to have published Wendy Ward’s new book, A Beginner’s Guide to Making Skirts and are delighted that there's been such a buzz about it. We caught up with Wendy recently to chat about it, and we also celebrated with a lovely blog tour, featuring some of our favourite blogs. Don’t worry if you missed it though, we’ve gathered together all of the links in one handy place for you to read at your own pace. So get cosy, grab a cuppa and take a look.

We teamed up with the generous folk at Fabworks who provided the bloggers with some fabric of their choice, and each blogger sewed their favourite pattern from the book. Naturally we were SEW (sorry, couldn’t resist) impressed with the end results.

Handmade Jane kicked us off by making the Rusholme A-line skirt in a lovely Muted Grid in Denim, and it worked out beautifully!

Very Kerry Berry also used the Rusholme pattern but in a maxi length, with pockets, proving that from Wendy’s 8 basic shapes, you can make just about any skirt you can imagine! We love Kerry’s choice of fabric too!

Marilla Walker switched things up a bit with Roehampton – the culottes pattern – and we love them!

“Honestly though I really value having this [book] in my collection and just picking it out of the shelf to write this post has filled me with joy and confidence in it's contents!” – Marilla Walker

Beginner dressmaker, Peas and Needles, is in the process of sewing up the Roehampton culottes but said that the book is “really informative and great for a beginner like me’ and we can’t wait to see her finished product!

We finished the week up over on By Hand London, with Elisalex’s beautiful Fallowfield pencil skirt, in lovely autumnal colours.

As we said at the beginning of this post, all of the fabric for the bloggers’ skirts was provided by Fabworks – head over to their website and check out their amazing range. And a huge thank you to all of the wonderful bloggers who have created these lovely skirts and given us a great blog tour! Now, which skirt would you like to make?
